At 12:30 pm Sunday, March 25th, the 4th day of the playground build, we (Zachary, Daddy and I) arrived at the playground. On the flyers it said that it was family day and everybody was allowed to work. To my dismay, when we got there a sign said: MUST BE 12 TO BE ON SITE. Daddy said I was old enough to work as long as I stayed with him. That was very annoying but after a while I found a job sanding something with a palm sander. Then Heidi came up and said I wasn’t allowed to use power tools but I could help with sealing the wood or raking the mulch. The rest of the day I ran errands, raked the mulch, went down the slide and watched people.
Saturday, March 31st
At 10:00 Daddy and I went to the playground to help do the finishing touches.
The first thing we did was we raked up stones to put in the tires for the zip line to hold them down and filled them the rest of the way with mulch. While we did that some other people finished the sealing. Then for a while I blew the mulch onto the sides of the parking lot with Scott Noll’s electric blower. When I left they were finishing the fence.
Last week was very exciting. Now we have a playground and I got to help for three days, well, sort of. Here is the whole story.
Day 1:
At about 9 o’clock Thursday morning Daddy and I left to get ice at Tennessee Valley Ice.
At about 10o’clock we arrived at the playground. I wasn’t supposed to be on site but
Daddy said as long as they didn’t tell me to go away it was ok. At first I took water to people and watched everybody. Later I started running errands for people and helping with the tree fort. The rest of the day I worked on the tree fort.
Day 2:
At about 9:30 I went to Marylu’s house and helped her put ice in her car and went to the playground. That day it was harder to find a job but by noon I was having fun. One thing I did is I tested the triangle monkey bars. At about 1:30 Heidi came over and said that I had to go home. She said she hadn’t realized I wasn’t 14 and it was ok yesterday because Daddy was here but today it wasn’t because I was alone. To read about the 25th and the 31st click read more.
